Transnational Teaching and Learning Activity in Turkey
Between 09.04. - 13.04. 2018 according to schedule, the fifth meeting took place in Talas, Kayseri.
Our school hosted 5 different countries of students and teachers from Romania, Poland, Croatia, Germany and Portugal.
1st day of meeting: 09 April 2018
Our first stop was the regional inspector of education on Monday. We as teachers and the director of the school met the guests in the front yard of inspector’s place. Our inspector met the guests in his room and accepted several gifts from partner countries. And also he gave his presents to the guests. After warm welcoming we led the school.
At school, our guests were served Turkish coffee and the project folders of the school and their badges were handed out. After getting the all items we were ready to go to opening ceremony.
The opening of the project was organized at the college of Erciyes. As initial our headmaster, İsa Çelik, made his welcoming speech. Second, the students from our school performed a music show with the traditional music instrument called “Bağlama” under the leadership of our music teacher Göktuğ Yağmur. Then the students of Mustafa Daştan performed a stage dance show called “Erik Dalı”. After finishing Erik Dalı, a presentation of Turkey and Kayseri followed it. Finally, the student from our school performed a great theatre including some humour prepared by Sevgi Şenkulak. After ending the opening event we led to panoramic tour of Talas. Within this tour, the participants visited Ottoman Street, American College, and historical Yaman Dede mosque and had a panoramic view of Talas from Seyir Hill.
2nd day of meeting: 10 April 2018
On Tuesday morning, the students had some lessons and practiced Turkish folk dance. Then the teachers and students joined to the stick game prepared by Meltem Koç Eroğlu. When the guest teachers came to the school we gave a start to the Drone Capture as the message of unity. Drone capture was the essential aim of the project declared in the application form. After drone capture, our science teacher led participants to create a parachute.
Thanks to these activities and lessons, the participants witnessed to or learnt new educational approaches and varieties, solidarity among students and teachers, traditional folk dance, giving the international message of unity, cultural interaction of beneficiaries, and integration to the activities, and cultural heritage of Turkey.
Then they had a trial flight with their parachute. In the afternoon, we moved to the mount Erciyes for a natural view.
3rd day of meeting: 11 April 2018
On Wednesday early morning, we met at school yard for a day long trip to Cappadocia, Nevşehir. This place is famous for its natural beauties and a lot of historical monuments. The tour includes pottery, open air museum, haired cave, lots of fairy chimneys (three beautifuls), pigeon valley, Uçhisar Fortress and wine house. First we visited a pottery shop in Cappadocia. Our guests had a different experience and a chance to try it. After observing how to create pottery the guide led us to a shop for souvenir.Our next stop was haired cave. Millions of hair were collected in haired cave and the addresses were saved there. So that only one person will be awarded with free Cappadocia tour for one week after raffle. After that we made our way to Uçhisar. Uçhisar is a fortress in Cappadocia and it has the most beautiful view around Nevşehir. People curved this rock combination in those times and lived there. So we can see many caves in Uçhisar fortress.
4th day of meeting: 12 April 2018
On Tuesday morning, we gave a start the day by attending lesson at social studies. This lesson was organized by our social studies teacher as a finding countries game on the map. After this lesson the participants had a lesson with the special needed ones. Our math’s teachers organized two lessons with the students and the guests also joined the lessons. After giving a tea break we had joint project: working on waste materials. Students tried their best to decorate waste materials to exhibit the final products. This activity was to improve the solidarity among students. Then our guest went to the teachers’ room so that they were presented the educational system of Turkey by Sevgi Şenkulak. After finishing working it was the time of relaxing. The guests were met to the richest culture of Turkey rooted from Ottoman times: Marbling (Ebru) and listening Neyzen. First they observed and got informed how to make Ebru and had a chance to make their own ones. With this activity the guests witnessed the cultural integration among countries. In the afternoon, all participants went a city tour of Kayseri. They visited Seljuk museum, Gevher Nesibe science museum and around the Kayseri castle. Then they were led to the Kazancılar and grand Bazaar.
5th day of meeting: 13 April 2018
The last working day, Friday, was for traditional games. The games started with the Math’s survivor. And then they joined carrying water with buckets, biting apple, finding coins/chocolate inside yogurt, handkerchief game, carrying egg. After that, the students made a joke with the water to the teachers. These kinds of games were to improve the solidarity and sincerity among students and make the background students more social. I was important to touch a pupil’s character in a positive way and to load him/her with the positive features of life. After completing the games we evaluated the Turkey mobility.
In the afternoon our guests were led to the Mazakaland Science Centre and then they played Lazer game with the kids. In the evening, we organized a farewell party. In this party we revised the one week in Kayseri and cut the Project cake. At the end of the party, we said goodbye to our guests.
